MAZDA
6, now in our Motor City and Powers Auto Park
locations!

The
highly anticipated 2009 MAZDA
6 is the first of
Mazda’s “Zoom-Zoom Evolution” second-generation vehicles, building on a
heritage of sports sedans and sports cars that no other manufacturer
can boast, and bringing a combination of sports sedan, sophistication,
build quality and product insight not currently found in the market.
“This is the most important
new vehicle Mazda has launched in a decade,” said Jim O’Sullivan,
president and CEO, MNAO “Bringing any new car to market at a
competitive price has always been critical, but seldom more-so than
today. Customers are looking for that rare combination of style,
dynamics, economy and a great price, and the all-new 2009
MAZDA6 delivers on all
levels.”Press and

Redesign Reflects Customer
Feedback
For the unveiling of the all-new,
completely redesigned 2009 Mazda6 midsize sports sedan, the folks at
Bob Penkhus Mazda Motor City pulled out all the stops. Even if that
meant buying rival vehicles to put alongside the second-generation
Mazda.
That's right - buying, not borrowing.
"Yeah, it's not something we've done
before," said Matt Canales, sales consultant at Bob Penkhus Mazda Motor
City, while performing a walkover of the 2009 Mazda6 with a comparably
equipped Toyota Camry mere feet away. "We're pretty confident in the
Mazda anyway. But when they see them side by side, they'll see the
difference.
"We're getting a (Honda) Accord to put on the
other size, too."
With more cabin and trunk space, more power
and torque, more style, refinement and innovation and, yes, more
"zoom-zoom," the 2009 Mazda6 stands alone in the sports-sedan tale of
the tape when matched up against the aforementioned Camry and Accord,
along with the latest version of the Chevy Malibu and Nissan Altima.
The all-new Mazda6 is the byproduct of years of customer
feedback since the birth of the first-generation Mazda6 for the 2003
model year. As much of a groundbreaking innovation the first Mazda6
proved to be, it wasn't left without a few faults.
"There
were complaints that the first Mazda6 was too small and underpowered,"
Canales said. "In research and development, the engineers of the new 6
made it bigger, more powerful and luxurious. They added a lot of nice
touches that makes this car much more than just a sports car."
So instead of just tweaking an already
solid automobile, Mazda virtually started over with the all-new 6,
taking the strides made with the earlier version and integrating
state-of-the-art technology and amenities unseen in the midsize
category.
I recently got a sneak peak at the all-new Mazda6,
courtesy of Bob Penkhus Mazda Motor City, 1101 Motor City Drive. It
didn't take long for the Mazda spirit to rub off on me.
Last
month, it was the crossover CX-7. This time, the all-new 6 provided all
the get-up-and-go, just in a much different looking package. But deep
within, the same soul took command: a 3.7-liter, six-cylinder engine
matched with an automatic six-speed Sport transmission.
While
Mazda is a world leader in four-cylinder engines, the 2009 Mazda6 Grand
Touring trim model brought out the entire package with the enhanced
power under the hood.
It's the same
engine that powers the CX-9, a sevenpassenger sport-utility vehicle
that weighs more than 5,000 pounds.
So with that same engine
in a car that's 1,500 pounds lighter, imagine the feel of putting the
pedal to the metal. Even better in real life. There's something about
272 horsepower and 269 foot-pounds of torque that does that. Even in
the four-cylinder model that boasts an MSRP of just $20,250, a
more-than-capable 2.5-liter engine cranks out 170 horsepower.
The Grand Touring trim, the top of the three available
models, starting with the Sport and Touring, comes in at $28,260,
although the tester came in at $30,690. The increase came by way of a
moonroof and beefed-up audio with the Bose package, in addition to
heated leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and
Bluetooth-ready phone and audio system.
Let's just say it's
much more than what I drive in regular, day-to-day life, but it's
plenty of value for the next generation of Mazda. According to the
Mazda6 kickoff press release, an estimated 2 million American consumers
purchase a new mid-size vehicle each year, a segment that easily
surpasses that of the SUV, crossover, minivan and luxury models.
So, to that end, the all-new Mazda6, with its enhanced
features outside and in, is aimed at both maintaining the automaker's
loyalists and luring those who long for a vehicle that provides sport
and premium quality.
Right off the bat, the Mazda6 impresses.
The exterior exudes plenty of appeal, a mixture of adrenaline and
chardonnay with its aggressive and distinctive front that tapers into
smooth lines and richly curved surfaces. Inside, welcoming leather, a
userfriendly steering wheel and an innovative keyless entry and
push-button start system get you going.
Then, you don't want
to stop.
Along the way, technology takes over in certain
situations. Besides an array of comfort and safety features that come
standard, such as improved performance and four-wheel, antilock brakes
with dynamic stability control, the Grand Touring model steps it up
with an ingenuous radar-based blind spot monitoring system that's not
even offered by Mazda's competitors.
And let's not forget the
roomy interior, either, highlighted by 60/40 split-fold rear seats -
standard on every Mazda6 - and a cavernous trunk that swallows the
challengers.
Now, it's time to release
the all-new, completely redesigned 2009 Mazda6 to Southern Colorado for
its expected late-August arrival.
"People are excited to get
into it," Canales said. "It's powerful and luxurious."
And
able to withstand the competition, too, even at arm's length. The way
they see it at Bob Penkhus Mazda, why make customers hopscotch all over
Motor City to see the best mid-size models? With the year coming up on
a historic decision, here's another one, without the annoying ads. It's
a choice of good looks, power, space, style and innovation.
